School Mission

The Mission of Walnut Park is to provide a Montessori education in a child-centered/ family-sensitive community. We promote Love of God, respect for each individual and an appreciation of diversity in a peaceful environment for a peaceful world.

Type

Walnut Park is a private Montessori pre-school, fully accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS). Walnut Park is a feeder school for Jackson School.

Sponsorship/Governance

Walnut Park is sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston. The school is governed by the “Jackson-Walnut Park Schools.”

Enrollment

125 Students ranging in age from 2.9 to 6 years.

Schedule & Sessions

  • All sessions are 5 days per week, Multi-Age Classrooms.
  • Full Day Session 8:30 - 2:30 (ages 4 & 5)
  • Morning Session 8:30 - 11:30 (ages 3 & 4)
  • Kindergarten child - 5 years by August 31, 2012 - must attend the Full Day program. It is the expectation that a child entering Walnut Park completes the Kindergarten year, thereby completing his/her Montessori pre-school experience. Please note: a child must be 6 yearrs of age by August 31, 2012 for entrance into First Grade.

Curriculum

The materials in each classroom support the Montessori curriculum areas of everyday living, sensorial, language, math, geography, science, and culture. The curriculum is enhanced with programs in music, art, Spanish, gym, library, and computer as well as an invitation to participate in studying chess. Activity days, wherein outside educational companies are contracted to visit Walnut Park, also serve to enrich the curriculum.

Walnut Park draws families from the following communities: Arlington, Belmont, Boston, Brighton, Brookline, Cambridge Chestnut Hill, Dorchester, Framingham, Lexington, Newton, Quincy, Roslindale, Somerville, Sout Boston, Sudbury, Waltham, Watertown, Wellesley, Weston, West Roxbury, and Woburn.

Application/Registration Process

  • Parent(s) visits the school for a Visiting Day.
  • Submit an online application and mail the application fee ($50) to the Admissions Office.
  • Letters mailed to parents in late February 2012.
  • Upon acceptance, an additional non-refundable seat deposit is due to secure the space. A copy of the child’s Birth Certificate and photo are also required at this time.

2011-2012 Tuition

  • Full Day Program $10,950
  • Half Day Program $8,800

Payment Plans

  • Jackson~Walnut Park Schools contracts with FACTS Tuition Management System that allows parents to pay tuition in one, two payments or ten equal monthly installments.

Financial Aid

  • Financial Aid is open to all students and is entirely need based.

Withdrawal Policy

Since the $500 is non-refundable, the BALANCE of tuition will be divided by nine. If your child should withdraw from the school after the first of the month, you are responsible to pay the full month’s tuition.

Family arranged.

After-School Program

Kids’ Corner, an after-school program, which serves children from both Jackson and Walnut Park, is located in the ballroom of Walnut Park. Sessions are available from 11:30-2:30, 2:30-5:30, or 11:30-5:30. A child must be accepted into Jackson-Walnut Park Schools to register. Please contact Walnut Park. In addition, many after-school enrichment classes are offered. Flyers with information on these classes are available each fall & spring.
